Following a recent global wave of anti-Semitism, the countries of Central America will hold a virtual solidarity event with Israel, in which they will present a united front against anti-Semitism. Guatemala’s President Dr Alejandro Giammattei, Israeli Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Yair Lapid, and other officials from Israel and Central America will attend the event. Representatives of the Jewish community in Guatemala as well as various organizations such as the Movement Against Antisemitism (CAM), the Center for Jewish Impact (CJI), will also participate in the virtual event. The event is an opportunity to show support for Israel and to reject anti-Semitism following a spike in anti-Semitic incidents that followed Operation Guardian of the Walls. The UK suffered its worst outbreak of anti-Semitic fervor in a month-long period from May to June of this year as the records began in 1984, with a massive increase in anti-Semitism during this period against the backdrop of conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.

According to a new report from the Community Security Trust, an organization that tracks anti-Semitism in the UK, a total of 628 incidents of anti-Semitic hate took place between May 8 and June 7, more than four times the number of incidents during the same period in 2020 and the month before May 8, 2021.
