Hanoi (VNA) – The General Customs Administration (GAC) of China has just approved the pilot import Vietnamese passion fruit from July 1, according to the Vietnam Sanitary and Phytosanitary Notification Authority and Inquiry Point (SPS Vietnam).

SPS Vietnam, which falls under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), said GAC suggested Vietnam to closely monitor packaging specifications and pest control issues, at the area code. cultivation and record keeping to ensure quality and food safety hygiene prior to export. fruit to China.

In addition, the Chinese side has introduced five quarantined pest species that are not allowed to appear in passion fruit exported to the country.

GAC asked MARD to cooperate in taking samples of export shipments for inspection.

Passion fruit production is required to meet the requirements of good agricultural practices such as VietGAP, GlobalGAP, among others.

According to SPS Vietnam, companies wishing to export passion fruit to China must register the product name, address and registration code for traceability with MARD and GAC.

Each year, before each export period, MARD will send a list of passion fruit exporters to the GAC for approval. GAC will publish the approved list on its official website.

Passion fruits are in the top 10 Vietnamese fruits with high export value in 2021. Over the past five years, the production and export value of passion fruit has jumped by more than 300%.

The plantation area and the production of passion fruit are continuously increasing, especially in the localities of the central highlands. The profit per hectare of passion fruit in the central highlands reached 350-400 million VND (more than 15,000-17,000 USD)./.
